Widely considered the “Father of American Golf”, Charles Blair Macdonald is most responsible for bringing golf to the United States. Having studied the great courses of the British Isles, he sought to bring their best holes to the New World. Armed with this knowledge, CB and his protégé, Seth Raynor, built nearly 80 golf courses bringing the themes from those great golf holes to America. But did they just produce copies of the great holes? This presentation will seek to explore the genius of Macdonald and Raynor and dissect the essence of the template holes.
